Elite Preview: 2023 CDF 10K!
Stacked fields will contest this Sunday’s reinvented CDF 10K which returns following a three year hiatus over a flat and fast course in central Cardiff.
The men’s field is particularly strong and is headed by former World U20 Cross Country Championship Bronze Medalist Alfred Ngeno (29:01). Fellow Kenyan’s Martin Musyoka (28:45) and Paul Selian (30:43) will also be in action. Ngeno and recent Darlington 10k Champion Musyoka will be racing here following an outing at last weekend’s Clearwater Antrim Coast Half Marathon where they finished in sixth and twelfth places respectively.
Welshman Dewi Griffiths (28:27) is a previous winner of the Cardiff 10k and is always a crowd favourite on Welsh soil as the current Welsh Champion over 10km, Half Marathon and the Marathon distance.
Jake Smith (29:30) will return to racing on Sunday and amongst his impressive resume is a Vitality Big Half Title in 2021 and a win in this race at the last edition back in 2019.
Kadar Omar (28:27) is a regular racer in South Wales, a former winner of the Cardiff Half Marathon but more recently as the winner of this year’s Ogi Porthcawl 10k and with an outing at the Adidas Podium 5k three weeks ago.
Kieran Clements (28:52) is a twice winner of the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k and will be racing here along with ABP Newport Wales Marathon Champion Dan Nash (29:23) and Fleet Half Marathon Champion Kurt Taylor (29:25).
Several other sub 30 minute performers will be in action including Phil Wylie (29:30), Mike Ward (29:33), Shaun Antell (29:34), Simon Nott (29:43), Tom Merson (29:45), Ciaran Lewis (29:46), Joe Morrow (29:53) and William Bryan (29:54).
Kate Reed (32:07) is the standout entrant in the women’s race. The Olympian from Bristol & West was third here in 2015 and has a lifetime best of 31:35 over 10,000m from 2008. Amongst her many race victories are wins at the Armagh Road Races, at the Great North 10k and at the Great Bristol 10k and Bath Half Marathon in 2019.
An impressive 28:21 over Five Miles two weeks ago indicates recent form ahead of her return to racing on the streets of Cardiff.
2022 Welsh 10km Champion Olivia Tsim (33:48) is always a welcome addition to Run 4 Wales races, having previously won in Cardiff Bay and in Barry and as the runner up in Barry in early August this year. The Pontypridd Roadent is a regular racer and represented Wales at the Adidas Podium 5k – Home Nations International in mid-August.
Rosie Hamilton-Jones (34:50) is next fastest, joined by Welsh duo Alaw Evans (34:57) and Kate Roberts (35:03) who are regular rivals and both familiar with this course.
Rachel Doherty (35:17), Finland’s Emilia Siltanen (35:29), Donna Morris (35:44) and ABP Barry 10k runner up Samantha Antell (36:32) will also be looking to feature at the return of this popular race on Sunday.
