Hospitality team take on CDF 10K to raise more than £6K for charity

A team of 62 hospitality workers took on the Brecon Carreg CDF 10K last weekend to raise money for charity.

The team of runners, assembled by the award-winning Cardiff cocktail bar, Lab 22, managed to raise an incredible £6,000 for Dream and Wishes Charity, a local charity dedicated to making dreams come true for seriously ill children and their families.

They were taking part in the event on Sunday 1 October as part of the ‘Hospitality vs 10K’ challenge and enjoyed a post-race feast at Pasture Cardiff afterwards.

Tani, from Lab 22, who recruited the team as part of the Run 4 Wales Team Challenge, said: “The feeling of running that race with a community of people who might not normally spend their Sunday morning like that, was like nothing else.

“Seeing people from all levels of ability come together for the race for months or weeks of training, all whilst raising an incredible amount of money for a worthy cause, was just brilliant.

“Some of the best people in the world work in hospitality and it was a privilege to be able to give something back to that community – that’s what Lab 22 has always been about.”

Tony Curtis MBE, Founder and Executive Chairman of Dreams and Wishes Charity added: “We are incredibly grateful to the ‘Hospitality vs 10K’ team and Lab 22 for their dedication and generosity.

“The funds raised will make a significant difference in the lives of the seriously ill children and families we support, helping us to create unforgettable precious memories during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

“Seeing the hospitality community come together in this way is truly heart-warming, and we can’t thank them enough for their support.”

The group took part as part of the event’s Team Challenge, which accepts entries from corporate, community or international teams of five or more.

Teams that enter compete to be crowned the fastest and to win prizes whilst also taking advantage of discounted entry, alongside other benefits. All members of the team run the full event distance, however it’s only the quickest five times from each team which are counted against the scores. The speediest average team score wins.

While entries are now full for the remainder of Run 4 Wales events for 2024, they will be going live for next year.
